Montessori teacher training accreditation and memberships
This page explains APTTI's professional associations and, just as important, what they do not mean, so you can judge recognition for yourself.
APTTI's memberships and associations
APTTI lists institutional associations with International TEFL Canada (which provides notarised certificates for APTTI candidates), IATEFL (UK, institutional member), the International Association of Special Education (long-term association), the Early Childhood Association, Montessori Europe, and Siam Technical College (for a separate classroom BA TESOL route). Ask admissions for current membership evidence for any body that matters to your employer.
What these associations mean
Memberships and associations show professional engagement. They are not the same as programme accreditation by a Montessori accrediting body.
How this compares with AMI, AMS and MACTE
AMI (Association Montessori Internationale, founded by Maria Montessori in 1929) and AMS (American Montessori Society) affiliate their own training centres. MACTE accredits Montessori teacher-education programmes, generally with residency and practicum requirements. APTTI's online courses are not AMI, AMS or MACTE programmes.
Government recognition
In India, Montessori certificates from private institutes are not NCTE-recognised teacher-education qualifications. In other countries, teacher registration bodies (TRCN, TSC, SACE, KHDA-approved training, ECDA) have their own rules. Check before you enrol if you need one of these.
