India has one of the world's largest private preschool sectors, and Montessori is the most recognised name in it. APTTI's head office is in Kolkata, and most Indian learners study online from home.
You can study APTTI's Montessori teacher training online from India: the Certificate (120 hours), Diploma (200 hours) or PG Diploma (240 hours). Fees are ₹10,000, ₹20,000 or ₹30,000 plus GST. Entry is 10+2 or a degree. The certificate is APTTI's own: widely used for private preschool jobs, but not a local teaching licence.
Montessori jobs in India
Private preschools, play schools and Montessori houses hire 'Montessori teachers' in every metro and many tier-2 cities, often with a private Montessori certificate or diploma as the entry requirement.
NEP 2020 created a foundational stage for ages 3–8, and the NCF for the Foundational Stage (2022) stresses play, activity and the child's home language, which sits comfortably with Montessori practice.
Pre-primary sections of CBSE, ICSE and state-board private schools also employ Montessori-trained teachers, sometimes alongside an NTT or ECCE qualification.
Government teaching posts need NCTE-recognised qualifications (such as D.El.Ed. or B.Ed.) and, for many posts, a TET pass. A private Montessori certificate does not replace these.
Private preschools set their own hiring rules. Most ask for 10+2 or a degree plus Montessori, NTT or ECCE training.
GST is added to APTTI's rupee fees at the applicable rate.
Documents and attestation
If you plan to move abroad later, keep your 10+2 and degree certificates ready for attestation; Gulf employers ask for them first.
Private Montessori certificates are widely used to get preschool and pre-primary jobs in private schools. They are not NCTE-recognised and do not qualify you for government teaching posts.
Can I pay in rupees?
Yes. Indian fees are ₹10,000, ₹20,000 and ₹30,000 plus GST for the Certificate, Diploma and PG Diploma.
Which is better in India: Montessori or NTT?
Montessori suits schools that run a Montessori or activity-based pre-primary; NTT covers nursery teaching more broadly. Many teachers hold both.
