Which course is best: NTT or MTT?
Neither NTT (Nursery Teacher Training) nor MTT (Montessori Teacher Training) is better for everyone. NTT covers nursery teaching broadly, including play-way methods, child development and classroom management. MTT focuses on the Montessori method, its materials and individualised learning. Choose MTT for Montessori schools; NTT for general nurseries; many teachers hold both.
What this means in practice
In India, both are private qualifications for preschool teaching, not NCTE-recognised.
Key differences
- NTT: broad nursery methods; MTT: Montessori method
- NTT: group activities and play-way; MTT: individual work with materials
- Both accepted by private preschools
- Neither replaces D.El.Ed./B.Ed. for government posts
Which should you choose?
If your target schools are Montessori or Montessori-inspired, choose MTT. If you want flexibility across nurseries, NTT or both.
A quick decision guide
- Target school calls itself Montessori → MTT
- Target school is a general nursery or play school → NTT or either
- You want the widest choice → both
- You want government school posts → neither; you need D.El.Ed./B.Ed.
