At what age should a child start Montessori?
Children commonly start a Montessori 3–6 classroom between 2½ and 3, and ideally stay for the full three-year cycle until about 6. Toddler programmes take children from about 18 months, and some infant programmes start earlier. Starting at 3 allows children to benefit from the full sequence of materials.
What this means in practice
The third year (age 5–6) is when many children consolidate reading and maths.
