What is AMI Montessori?
AMI (Association Montessori Internationale) is the organisation founded by Maria Montessori in 1929, based in Amsterdam. It sets standards for Montessori training and schools, runs and recognises training centres worldwide, and awards AMI diplomas, which require substantial in-person study and practice teaching. AMI diplomas are widely respected internationally.
What this means in practice
AMI training is typically full-time or intensive and costs significantly more than online courses.
AMI levels
- Assistants to Infancy (0–3)
- Primary (3–6)
- Elementary (6–12)
AMI in our regions
AMI has training centres in India, Nigeria and other countries; check the AMI website for current locations.
AMI or an online course?
AMI training is the right choice if you want AMI-affiliated schools or the strongest international credential, and can afford the time and fees. An online course suits people who need flexibility and plan to work in private preschools that accept a range of Montessori training.
Practical next steps
- Visit the AMI website.
- Find nearby centres.
- Compare cost and time.
- Decide what you need.
What to keep in mind
APTTI's courses are not AMI.
